The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Year after year, as tens of thousands of people lose their lives in traffic crashes in the U.S., the well-known saying above can feel all too tragically true. And while no one doubts the commitment and sincerity of […]

For much of the nation, 2020 was an awful year in terms of increased traffic fatalities (and so many other areas). Interestingly, Denver, Colorado saw a decrease in traffic deaths from 71 in 2019 to 57 in 2020 -- note that Denver’s Vision Zero leaders will be quick to acknowledge this is no cause for […]

We were encouraged to learn about a Congressional hearing in late February examining problems of racial bias in police-led enforcement and related funding from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). You can watch the hearing at the U.S. House of Representatives’ Subcommittee on Highways and Transit Hearing here. In our letter to the Congress […]

The Vision Zero Network is one of many organizations questioning the role of enforcement in the goal of traffic safety. Traffic stops are the most common way for people in the U.S. to interact with police. And Black drivers are twice as likely to be pulled over and four-times as likely to be searched by […]

Today, an estimated 100 people will die in the U.S. while walking, biking, driving or taking transit. These are sons and daughters, parents, grandparents, beloved aunts and uncles, friends and neighbors. And tomorrow, another 100 people. Each day, another 100. Over the course of one year, 40,000 of our loved ones lose their lives in preventable traffic crashes and millions more are seriously injured. And, traffic deaths are the leading cause of death of youth in this country. But it does not have to be this way. Sign the letter today calling on President Biden and his team to set and advance the goal of #ZeroTrafficDeaths in the U.S. by 2050.
