Innovating for Quicker, Low-Cost Safety Solutions

It’s encouraging to see the growing appetite – and funding – for quick-to-install, low-cost solutions to improve roadway safety in our communities. We showcased some of these at our June 26, 2024 webinar, sharing quick-build examples from across the country.

We were joined by a Vision Zero Network sponsor, MPS, to learn about their SafetyStick™, a device that monitors and helps enforce no-parking zones in bike lanes, bus stops, crosswalks, loading zones and other locations.

Watch the one-hour recording and  learn about successes in cities using the SafetyStick™ to improve safety on the roads, including Denver:

The SafetyStick™ is used to reduce dangerous, illegal parking in designated areas such as crosswalks, bikeways, bus stops, parking zones, spaces for emergency vehicles. This round-the-clock monitoring reduces staffing needs and potential for confrontations. The SafetyStick™ is solar-powered and easy to install and move to different locations, as needed. And it offers real-time data & reporting. Learn more.

We discussed the timely opportunity to pilot quick, low-cost safety features with planning and demonstration grants from the new federal Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) program. Read more about Vision Zero Network’s ideas for SS4A here.
