We’re proud to share an informative, new resource to help communities address the dangers of high speeds, which contribute to at least one-third of traffic deaths in the U.S. Just released, Fair Warnings: Promoting Equity in Speed Safety Camera Programs aims to help Vision Zero champions take a more thoughtful and equity-centered approach to using speed safety cameras.

However, the way a speed safety camera program is set up and evaluated can significantly impact both its actual and perceived effectiveness and equity impacts. To avoid disproportionate financial burden on low income road users, these programs should be managed in ways that allow for robust and comprehensive monitoring and reporting processes. 

This webinar will provide an overview of key recommendations highlighted in the Program Administration and Monitoring & Evaluation sections of the report. We’ll explore strategies to assess whether the program is achieving its intended roadway safety goals, placing undue financial burden on specific communities, or whether nonpunitive safety measures are being prioritized and used equitably. You'll hear from local practitioners and advocates on the different strategies they’ve employed for managing these programs in ways that don’t exacerbate inequities and monitoring the efficacy and equity of these programs.
