Prioritizing Speed Management in Vision Zero Planning

June 7, 2023 | 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm | Eastern Time

Speed-related crashes are responsible for at least one-third of roadway fatalities in the U.S. As communities experience tragic – and preventable – increases in traffic deaths and injuries, Vision Zero Action Plans need to prioritize ambitious and actionable speed management strategies.

In this webinar, we will discuss ways to leverage the Vision Zero planning process to emphasize Safety over Speed in your community. Hear from leaders in communities that recognize how a Safe System approach lifts up strategies to slow speeds and improve safety, starting with the Vision Zero planning process.

We'll be joined by panelists from communities that prioritize speed management in their Vision Zero Action Plans:

  • James Le, Senior Civil Engineer, Vision Zero/Project Development Division, City of Seattle, WA
  • Barkha Patel, Director at Department of Infrastructure, Jersey City, NJ
  • Brian Soper, City Planner at Department of Infrastructure and Development, City of Salisbury, MD

This webinar is the fifth in our Fundamental of Vision Zero Action Planning series, supporting communities developing or updating Vision Zero plans, including those receiving Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) grant funding from USDOT.
